superintendent search

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Smithville Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees, at its April 23rd special meeting, named Dr. Molley Perry as lone finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Dr. Perry to be the new superintendent for Smithville ISD. Dr. Perry is slated to replace out-going Superintendent Cheryl Burns, who is retiring after 37 years of service in Smithville ISD.

The Board has followed a lengthy process in determining the finalist. In February, the Board hired Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search. Five applicants were selected by the Board of Trustees for an initial interview and then three applicants were invited back for a second interview.

Dr. Molley Perry is currently Deputy Superintendent in Elgin ISD. Previously, she served in this same capacity in College Station ISD, where she also held district level leadership roles including Chief Administrative Officer, Executive Director, and Director of Special Services. She began her career as a special education teacher in Bryan ISD, where she also later served as Director of Special Education.

Board President Chris Hinnant remarked, “We are looking forward to the next chapter of continued success at SISD. We welcome Dr. Perry and her family to the Smithville family.”

“I am beyond excited to join the Smithville ISD family,” Perry said. “I am looking forward to working with the Smithville ISD school board, teachers, staff and community to build upon the district’s success.”

As a proud Aggie, Dr. Perry earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. She also holds a Master’s in education from Texas Tech University.
