important message with school seal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2022–2023 accountability ratings for all school districts across the state. However, it’s important to note that these results are based on data that is now two years old. The release was delayed due to ongoing litigation regarding TEA’s decision to change scoring criteria after assessments had already been administered. Legal proceedings are also delaying the release of the 2023–2024 ratings.

The TEA calculates accountability ratings using three domains:

  • Academic Achievement (70% of the overall score)

  • School Progress (Academic Growth and Relative Performance)

  • Closing the Gaps (Federal performance requirements)

Due to the significant delays in publishing these ratings, the current accountability scores do not accurately reflect the present state of student achievement in Smithville ISD. For example, Smithville Elementary received zero points in Domain Three: Closing the Gaps, and Smithville High School’s results disproportionately influenced the district’s overall rating.

Despite these challenges, Smithville ISD has made substantial progress over the past year. For example:

  • All campuses are now utilizing state-approved High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIMs) to ensure grade-level instruction.

  • Leadership has made calculated staffing assignments based on specific content need areas.

  • Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have expanded, allowing more students to explore and prepare for a variety of career pathways and obtain certifications.

  • As of today, we have doubled the number of seniors who have met the College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) requirement.

While we recognize that there is still work to be done, Smithville ISD is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every student receives a high-quality education.
