new superintendent in front of admin building

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Smithville Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees called a special meeting on May 15th to vote to unanimously approve the appointment of Dr. Molley Perry as Superintendent of Smithville ISD.  Her first day with the District will be June 3, following the retirement of current Superintendent Cheryl Burns.

The Board followed a lengthy process to reach this final decision. In February, they engaged the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the search. Five applicants were selected by the Board of Trustees for an initial interview and then three applicants were invited back for a second interview.  Dr. Perry was chosen as the lone finalist at an April 23rd special meeting.  After the required 21 day waiting period, the Board was thrilled to finalize the search.

"We are excited to conclude the Superintendent hiring process, and look forward to working with Dr. Perry soon," said Board President Chris Hinnant.  "We are confident that Dr. Perry will continue to build upon the success of Smithville ISD and lead our district toward even greater achievements."

Dr. Perry is a proud Aggie, and earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. She also holds a Master’s in education from Texas Tech University.  She will be leaving Elgin ISD, where she currently serves as Deputy Superintendent.

“I am truly honored to have been selected to lead and serve as the next Superintendent of Schools for Smithville ISD,” said Dr. Perry. “I look forward to joining the Smithville community and working alongside our Board of Trustees, administrators, and staff to build upon a strong foundation of success and achieve excellent outcomes for our students.”
